At least six people were injured on Tuesday (April 1) when a box truck crashed into a building and struck pedestrians in downtown Boston. The accident occurred around 12:48 p.m. at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Kneeland Street. Boston Police Officer Michael Torigian reported that the truck appeared to have struck multiple poles and was wedged between a pole and a building. Emergency services, including Boston Fire and EMS, responded promptly to the scene.
Two of the injured are in critical condition, while two others sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Two additional individuals were treated at the scene. The Boston Fire Department used extrication tools to free the trapped driver from the cab of the overturned Penske rental truck.
The truck, rented by a commercial trucking company, was seen on its side, with debris scattered around the crash site. Penske issued a statement expressing concern for those injured and confirmed their cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, officials do not suspect foul play. Local outlets have reported that the driver may have experienced a medical emergency before the incident. Homicide and fatal accident detectives are assisting with the investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
