YSU Football Game Cancelled - 2021 Spring Season Over

The Youngstown State football team’s final game of the spring season against North Dakota has been canceled, the Missouri Valley Football Conference announced on Wednesday.

“The efforts by our team and staff throughout this entire year have been incredible,” Head Coach Doug Phillips said. “To play seven games this spring says a lot about their passion for football and commitment to our program. We look forward to finishing off this semester strong academically and will continue to work hard to be ready to go when fall camp starts in just three months.”

“Our student-athletes and coaching staff want to thank our loyal fans, Penguin Club members, Scholarship Loge holders, the YSU Marching Pride, our Spirit Squad and the entire Youngstown community for their support this Spring. Go Penguins!”

The contest between the Penguins and Fighting Hawks was originally scheduled for March 27 but was postponed the day before kickoff and rescheduled for April 17. YSU began spring play on Feb. 21 at North Dakota State and has practiced for nearly three full months since preseason camp started in January.

All fans who purchased tickets for Saturday’s game have the option to request a refund or donate to YSU's World Penguin Day Campaign for Athletic scholarships and championship rings. To confirm your option please call the ticket office at (330) 941-1978, or visit the Athletic Ticket Office in Stambaugh Stadium. The ticket office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday for in-person service.

YSU opens the fall slate on Thursday, Sept. 2, against Incarnate Word from the Southland Conference at Stambaugh Stadium.
